Commercial Architecture Photography – Vanderbilt Health in Hendersonville, TN

FIRM: Neyer

A few months back I was scouting places to live in the greater Nashville area and was staying down the street from the beautifully designed Vanderbilt Health Center in Hendersonville, TN. This was not a commissioned commercial architecture photography project, but one that I had to photograph as I had driven by it several times and each time the light was hitting it perfectly.

This building was in between the hotel I was staying and pretty much everywhere you can get decent food, so I drove back and forth by this an obnoxious amount of times during my stay. Fortunately, each time I was able to see what the light was doing so that by the time I was ready to shoot it I knew exactly where and when I needed to be to get the perfect commercial architecture photograph of this buildings exterior.

One of the things that I learned when I was Scouting Commercial Architecture During Covid was that persistence and patience really pay off when photographing commercial exteriors. The light constantly changes throughout the day and the weather has a significant impact on what things are going to look like. For example, there were several rainy or overcast days where the highlights and shadows of this building wouldn’t have been as prominent. Even on days with blue skies, unless you get the light at the right time, the image could still look flat and ugly. For this building, I knew that I needed morning light with a soft sky and an evening twilight shoot to really show off the geometry of this structure.

So, I hope you enjoyed how I just walked by that whole “place to live in Nashville” thing. Yes – I will be based out of Nashville, TN but will be traveling throughout the country for work. It is a great central location for the places that I want to be shooting and the perfect climate as far as I am concerned. I will still be working in Minnesota as well – so not to worry if you are a current client! I am still here for you. In fact, as of right now I have shoots booked already in Minnesota, South Dakota, Michigan, and Ohio.

If you are an architect or designer and would like to work together, let’s talk!
